In this lesson, you will get to:
Determine the history of the dance jive.
Demonstrate the basic step of that dance.
Dance the jive correctly.
So, let’s start the ball rolling,
Let’s watch video on the dance jive and be amazed of by how the dancers move. As you watch the video, try to imagine yourself as the performer, then answer the following questions below:
1. How would it feel to be a dancer of that particular dance?
2. What would the viewers feel as they watch your performance?
3. Would you want to be that performer in real life?
Before eating the bread, let’s take the butter first to make it yummier. This link will lead us to know how the jive evolved. (click me!)
Stand up and with your partner, learn the- step by- step guide to the basic steps of the jive. (click me!)
Since you now know the basic steps, it’s your task to create your own choreography. Though you normally dance the jive with a partner, you will try it out first as group. Your class will be divided into four groups. Find a partner, but within your group, do the following:
* Choose your own music suited to the rhythm of the dance.
* Create choreography that is not less than two minutes, but not exceeding five minutes.
* Record your presentation using a video camera, your cell phone or any available equipment that is compatible with your computer video software and upload this in our blog.
* I and your classmates will be grading you according to these criteria:
Choreography 30%
Poise and Projection 20%
Timing 20%
Appropriateness of the attire 20%
and the 10% will be taken from the number of votes your group had won. Experience the feeling of being a dancer and a true artist.
Would you like to share your insights?
Please write about your experiences and feelings as your group did the task. Send this to my email account (rafunzelj@gmail.com.). Below are the guide questions that you can use as you write your composition. Make your composition two to three paragraphs long.
1. Did you have difficulty in dancing the jive?
2. What was the general feeling as you performed the dance with your partner?
3. As you saw yourself dancing on screen, how did this affect your perception of yourself and others?
4. What is the value of dance in life?
I hope that you learn something from this lesson. See you in your next journey.
